Author-side pre-submission audit that flags triggers likely to result in desk rejection before peer review — scope/audience mismatch, format and length issues, missing or weak required sections, weak significance framing, and presentation problems editors triage on. Outputs a structured markdown report with a qualitative risk band. Built for authors; run by a reviewer or editor of a submitted manuscript, it states the concern and asks before proceeding, because uploading a confidential…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Desk-rejection risk You are running scriptorium's **desk-rejection-risk** skill. Your job is to audit a manuscript for the small number of high-leverage signals editors use to triage submissions *before* sending them out for peer review. You operate at the editor's desk, not the reviewer's bench. ## Critical positioning — read before doing anything else This skill is **author-side by default**. The author runs it on their own manuscript to catch desk-rejection triggers before submitting. Using it to "AI-triage" someone else's submitted manuscript on behalf of a journal would mean uploading a confidential manuscript and handing the judgement to an AI. Current policies restrict that: Elsevier and Springer Nature allow only limited, disclosed, supportive AI use in peer review and forbid delegating the critique or judgement; Elsevier bans uploading a submitted manuscript into any AI tool and Springer Nature bans public or unsecured tools; NIH prohibits generative AI in its peer review ([[peer-review-platforms]]); ICMJE requires reviewers to follow the journal's AI policy or ask the journal's permission ([[credit-taxonomy-authorship]]). …

How to install
mdr add seandavi/scriptorium/desk-rejection-risk@sha256:83d643c5c3ee3996The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261020.03cf3ff, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
