S3 security reference: access control layers, encryption models, a secure bucket baseline in Terraform, TLS-only bucket policies, access points, and anti-patterns such as public buckets and ACL reliance. Use when configuring or auditing S3 buckets.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# AWS S3 Security > S3 bucket security configurations, access control models, encryption patterns, and data exposure prevention. ## Knowledge Base ### S3 Access Control Layers S3 has multiple overlapping access control mechanisms. Understanding the hierarchy prevents misconfigurations: 1. **Block Public Access (Account level)** -- Master switch. If enabled at account level, overrides all bucket-level settings. This is your first line of defense. 2. **Block Public Access (Bucket level)** -- Per-bucket controls. Four independent settings: - `BlockPublicAcls` -- Rejects PUT requests with public ACLs - `IgnorePublicAcls` -- Ignores existing public ACLs - `BlockPublicPolicy` -- Rejects bucket policies that grant public access - `RestrictPublicBuckets` -- Restricts access to bucket with public policies to AWS principals only 3. **Bucket Policy** -- JSON policies attached to the bucket. Most flexible control. 4. **ACLs (Legacy)** -- Predates bucket policies. AWS recommends disabling ACLs entirely (S3 Object Ownership set to "Bucket owner enforced"). 5. **IAM Policies** -- Control what IAM principals can do with S3. …

How to install
mdr add hermeticormus/libresecops-claude-code/aws-s3-security@sha256:91b3e41597ae231fThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260930.71a2663, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
