Reconnaissance methodology for authorized bug bounty programs: passive recon (certificate transparency, search engine and code dorking, historical URLs), in-scope active recon (subdomain enumeration, live host probing, content and JavaScript analysis), and attack surface mapping. Use when scoping recon inside a program's published rules.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Recon Methodology > Comprehensive reconnaissance methodology for authorized bug bounty programs covering subdomain enumeration, technology fingerprinting, content discovery, and attack surface mapping. ## Knowledge Base ### Recon Philosophy Reconnaissance is the foundation of bug bounty hunting. The depth and quality of your recon directly determines the uniqueness and impact of your findings. Most hunters run the same automated tools against the same targets. The difference is in methodology -- how you process, correlate, and act on recon data. The key insight: **the most interesting targets are the ones nobody else is testing** -- forgotten subdomains, old API versions, acquired domains, staging environments, internal tools accidentally exposed. Deep recon reveals these. ### Passive Reconnaissance (No Target Interaction) **Certificate Transparency**: ```bash # crt.sh - Query CT logs for all certificates issued to a domain curl -s "https://crt.sh/?q=%.example.com&output=json" | jq -r '.[].name_value' | sort -u # CertSpotter curl -s "https://api.certspotter.com/v1/issuances?domain=example.com&include_subdomains=true" | jq -r '.[].dns_names[]' | sort -u ``` …

How to install
mdr add hermeticormus/libresecops-claude-code/recon-methodology@sha256:24c4f647c333ef74The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260930.71a2663, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
