Onboard to a new codebase with structured exploration. Scans the project, generates an architecture map with Mermaid diagrams, identifies entry points, explains the tech stack, lists key patterns and conventions, and produces a "start here" guide. Use when user says "onboard", "new project", "understand this codebase", "what does this project do", "walk me through the project", "project overview", or joins a new team or repository. For explaining a single file, use /explain; for code review…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
## Overview Structured codebase exploration that produces a navigable architecture overview and a "Start Here" guide. Designed for the first hour on a new project. ## When to Use - First session in a repository nobody on the current task has worked in. - Joining a team, or picking up a take-home, an external repository, or untrusted source that needs the Phase 0 trust scan before anything else runs. - Refreshing a mental model of a project whose structure moved since it was last read. - For one file or function, use `/explain`; for a quality score, use `/assessment`; for a single diff, use `/review`. ## Arguments - No arguments: onboard the current working directory. Phase 0 prompts before running the trust scan. - `<path>`: onboard the specified path as the project root. - `--trust`: I trust this project. Skip the trust scan and the prompt. Recorded in the final Start Here guide as a deliberate skip. - `--verify`: I do not trust this project. Run the trust scan without prompting. Useful for take-homes, external repos, and untrusted source. - Passing both `--trust` and `--verify` together is a conflict. Reject with an error. ## Process …

How to install
mdr add gufranco/claude-engineering-rules/onboard@sha256:681fb74c7d77e83eThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261012.84ebb18, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
