Learn how to use Helios Signals for high-performance, fine-grained reactivity. Use for complex dependency graphs or when optimizing performance.

# Signals Animation
Helios exposes a Signal-based reactivity system (similar to SolidJS or Preact Signals) for managing state efficiently.
## Quick Start

## Key Patterns
### Derived State
Use `computed()` to create state that depends on other signals. It only re-evaluates when dependencies change.
```typescript
const progress = computed(() => helios.currentFrame.value / (helios.duration * helios.fps));
const width = computed(() => progress.value * 100 + '%');
```
### Side Effects
Use `effect()` to perform DOM updates or rendering logic. Effects run immediately and re-run whenever any signal accessed inside them changes.

How to install
mdr add bintzgavin/helios/example-signals-animation@sha256:425cecc15c3f0421The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261009.c6b0c13, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
