Write replies as rich HTML that the Walnut web console and iOS app render natively while streaming — colored callouts, comparison grids, SVG diagrams, CSS-only steppers/tabs, animations, and sandboxed `html-app` islands for real JavaScript. Load this when explaining something hard (a paper, a codebase, a protocol, a decision) where visual structure beats prose, or when a reply is in rich output mode.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Rich HTML output The Walnut web console and the iOS app both render raw HTML in an assistant reply as real DOM, streaming it like markdown. You do not need a special syntax or a wrapper: write `<div>`, `<style>`, `<svg>`, `<details>` in the reply and they render. Markdown still works alongside, so use HTML only where it earns its place. **Write visual HTML directly in the reply.** Do not replace it with an HTML file, a screenshot, or an HTML code fence unless the user explicitly requests that artifact. Use `html-app` only for JavaScript islands. Keep internal widget lines contiguous; separate the widget from surrounding markdown with blank lines. **Do not wrap the whole reply in one container.** Write each block at the top level of the reply, the way you write paragraphs. A single `<div>` around everything is not free: it keeps one element open from the first line to the last, which makes the entire reply one streaming block instead of many, and CommonMark then swallows the line right after the opening tag (a `## Heading` there renders as literal `## Heading`). The client strips a bare wrapper it can prove is ceremony, but a wrapper with attributes is taken at face value. …

How to install
mdr add evanzhang008/open-walnut/walnut-rich-output@sha256:86dd62e6776555cdThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261013.45aeb25, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
