Use whenever a Conventional Commit message is being drafted — whether the user asks ("write commit message", "draft commit from staged changes", "generate conventional commit", "split this into commits") or you are about to propose one proactively after finishing work (e.g. completing tasks, wrapping up a feature, or summarizing staged changes). Invoke before writing the message inline. Not for creating commits, amending history, or full code review.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Commit Message Draft a Conventional Commit message from staged changes. ## Invocation Notice - Tell the user when this skill is running: `commit-message`. Skip the notice when the user asked for the skill by name or slash command; spelling and spacing need not match. How to install
mdr add ahgraber/skills/commit-message@sha256:946a5b30b14917a6The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260819.209d97b, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
