Git commit message conventions: structure, formatting, scoping, body content, breaking changes, trailers.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Commit Message Format <scope> These rules apply only to git commit messages. Do not apply the line-length limits, the format rules, or the structure rules of this skill to other files. Code, documentation, and configuration files keep their own rules. </scope> A commit message is a factual record of one change. It tells the reader why the change happened. The reader has the diff and the docs. The message adds only what the diff and the docs cannot show. ## What Makes a Good Message <context-principle> Draw the _why_ from three sources: the task that you solved, the reason that this approach won, and the code that you built. Do not copy the sources into the message. If the context is incomplete, record what the code and the available information can verify. </context-principle> ## Structure <format> The message has three blocks. A blank line separates the blocks: ```text [scope] subject body trailers ``` - **Subject** — what changed. - **Body** — the reason for the change, and the procedure that verifies it. - **Trailers** — structured metadata such as references and authorship. </format> ### ASCII Symbols <charset> …

How to install
mdr add xobotyi/cc-foundry/commit-message@sha256:00836713238fd446The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261029.d56247c, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
