The reporting and restraint rules for an AI agent changing someone's codebase: never claiming a result that was not observed, saying which commands ran and what they printed, reporting what could not be verified rather than omitting it, keeping the diff to what was asked, preserving behaviour that was not in scope, checking APIs against the versions the project actually depends on, and refusing to make a test pass by weakening it. Use before reporting that work is complete, when about to write…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Coding Agent Discipline ## Purpose Keep implementation and reporting within the authorized task. Support claims with applicable evidence, revise conclusions when that evidence changes, and distinguish a missing technical fact from a decision that needs the user. The deliverable is the requested work plus a proportionate account of its verification and remaining limits. ## Workflow 1. **Before claiming anything, ask what you observed.** Every claim in your report maps to a command/output, inspected artifact or version-matched primary source; distinguish that evidence from inferred or unverified behavior (`references/verification.md`). 2. **Complete repository-required checks and those the change's risk warrants** and read the output rather than the exit code alone. Some runners can exit successfully with zero relevant tests. For composed commands, inspect the required step's own result: a later successful reporter can hide an earlier failure. Starting a background check is not observing its completion. Attribute existing local, CI or delegated evidence to its source and checked inputs; reuse it …

How to install
mdr add robsonkades/agent-skills/coding-agent-discipline@sha256:96bda5fa63a621e3The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261016.c769bd8, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
