Writing documents for agents. Use when creating or editing a skill (its SKILL.md, description or reference files), when modifying AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md, or when reviewing an agent-facing document that behaves inconsistently across runs. Prose that people read, such as a memo or a one-pager, follows its own rules.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Writing for agents
Reference for writing any document an agent consumes: a skill, an `AGENTS.md` / `CLAUDE.md`, a doc reached by a pointer. The packaging differs; the writing does not: the same levers make each one predictable, since the agent takes the same _process_ every run rather than producing the same output.
When the document you're writing is a skill, read [`SKILL-MECHANICS.md`](SKILL-MECHANICS.md) for frontmatter, invocation choice, and router skills. Credit and license: `LICENSE.md` in this folder.
When you add or reword a discipline rule (one an agent under pressure would explain away), read [`PRESSURE-TESTS.md`](PRESSURE-TESTS.md) and watch the rule go red, then green, in a fresh subagent before it ships.

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261015.6e97839, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
