# Inngest Steps
Build robust, durable workflows with Inngest's step methods. Each step is a separate HTTP request that can be independently retried and monitored.

## Core Concept
**🔄 Critical: Each step re-runs your function from the beginning.** Put ALL non-deterministic code (API calls, DB queries, randomness) inside steps, never outside.
**📊 Step Limits:** Every function has a maximum of 1,000 steps and 4MB total step data.

How to install
mdr add asymmetric-al/core/inngest-steps@sha256:4ed1665d718b9b3aThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260625.efbcae0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
