Coordinating a business operation across transactional owners: dual writes, XA/2PC, persisted sagas, compensation, pivot/forward recovery, ambiguous outcomes and manual repair. Use when a local transaction is expected to cover a broker or remote service, or in-flight workflow state cannot survive restart. Outbox delivery, idempotency, consistency, retries and single-database transaction design remain in their owning skills.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Distributed Transactions And Sagas ## Purpose Decide how a business operation spanning several owners ends in a consistent state when no transaction covers it. When implementation is requested, make recovery survive a crash mid-flight. The choice includes removing the distribution, a transaction manager over enlisted resources, durable message intent and sagas; compare their invariant and recovery models. The failure this prevents is the **dual write**: a method that saves a row and then publishes a message or calls another service. On a crash between the two lines the database may have a committed order without publication if the save committed separately; publishing inside an open local transaction instead risks a message for a later rolled-back row. A local `@Transactional` does not fix it — the broker and the remote service are not enrolled in that transaction, so the annotation only makes the defect look handled. The second is the saga presented as a transaction: compensations exist, the happy path works, and nobody accounts for the window in which a half-applied state is readable by everyone else. ## Workflow …

How to install
mdr add robsonkades/agent-skills/distributed-transactions-and-sagas@sha256:38df63907a8d8904The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261016.c769bd8, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
