Hardware-aware Java: cache-line coherence and locality, false sharing and how it differs from lock contention, object layout measured with JOL, LongAdder versus AtomicLong, data locality in arrays and collections, and NUMA topology. Use when throughput gets **worse** as threads are added, when scaling efficiency collapses, when fields are being added to a class shared between threads, when volatile counters sit next to each other, when @Contended or padding is proposed, when -XX:+UseNUMA is…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# CPU Cache and NUMA ## Purpose Explain hardware-locality failures that blocking-oriented evidence can miss. False sharing can degrade throughput without monitor contention or a dedicated JFR event, but cache misses, coherence traffic, CPU saturation and scaling curves still leave evidence. Treat it as a hypothesis to falsify, not the default explanation for poor scaling. ## Workflow Start from the requested outcome and reuse existing captures, layout listings and deployment configuration when they match the workload and build. Preserve the project's Java baseline; use Java 25 when no target is specified. For a conceptual or flag question, answer the relevant contract directly. Keep an adequate layout or placement when there is no demonstrated problem. For a scaling investigation, select the following checks to resolve the remaining hypotheses: 1. **Measure the scaling curve**: throughput, p99, CPU, allocation and synchronization from one thread through the production concurrency range. Efficiency is descriptive; there is no universal 0.5 entry threshold. 2. **Check the signature.** Throughput that worsens as writers are added is consistent with …

How to install
mdr add robsonkades/agent-skills/cpu-cache-and-numa@sha256:b05b5177875e747fThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260927.9ecadfd, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
