Record a test run, a TUI session, or any terminal command as a GIF with VHS and attach it to a GitHub PR as a release-hosted asset, never a repo commit. Use when asked to record an e2e run, demo a fix on a PR, attach a GIF or screen recording to a pull request, show a test passing visually, or produce a terminal recording of pi-go. Encodes the sandbox trap that makes VHS segfault on the first attempt.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Recording an e2e run as a GIF on a PR Turn a test run into a short GIF and hang it off the PR, so a reviewer sees the suite go green without checking out the branch. ## The one trap **VHS segfaults inside the agent sandbox.** It binds a loopback port for `ttyd`, the sandbox refuses, and `randomPort()` dereferences the nil listener: ``` panic: runtime error: invalid memory address or nil pointer dereference main.randomPort() github.com/charmbracelet/vhs/tty.go:22 ``` That is the sandbox, not a broken tape. **Run every `vhs` invocation with the sandbox disabled.** Same for `gh` (network) — the upload step needs it too. Dependencies: `vhs`, `ttyd`, `ffmpeg` (`brew install vhs ttyd ffmpeg`). VHS pulls in the other two, but check before blaming a tape. ## Workflow **1. Record.** ```bash OUT=/tmp/e2e-tool-calls.gif DIR=$PWD \ scripts/record-gif.sh "go test -tags e2e ./internal/agent/ -run TestE2E -v 2>&1 | grep -E '^(--- |ok|FAIL)'" ``` The script writes the tape, runs VHS, and extracts the **final frame** next to the GIF as `<name>.last.png`. **2. How to install

This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
