luxar-data-loading SKILL.md skillA
luxar-data-loading from royerlab/luxar is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.

Load an nD image / volume into Luxar and select the right slice. Use when a user needs to feed a .zarr / .zarr.zip / OME-Zarr / .tiff / .npy / .npz into a gsplat fit/cal, pick a channel or timepoint, choose a nested array key, or fix axis-order detection (TCZYX/CZYX/ZYX) with explicit --axes labels. Covers supported formats, the load_volume API, OME-Zarr multiscale/voxel-size discovery, and the common "wrong axes / huge movie loaded into RAM" pitfalls.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Load nD images & volumes into Luxar The fitting commands (`luxar gsplat fit` / `cal` / `compare`, and `denoise`) load a volume through one loader. Getting the **format, slice selection, and axis order** right up front avoids fitting the wrong data or blowing up RAM. ## Supported formats | Format | Notes | | --- | --- | | `.npy` | NumPy array (base dependency) | | `.npz` | NumPy archive — first array, or pick with `--array-key` | | `.zarr` / `.zarr.zip` | Zarr array or group, incl. OME-Zarr 5D (base dependency) | | `.tiff` / `.tif` | needs `pip install "luxar[io]"` (tifffile + imagecodecs; compressed LZW/JPEG/zstd TIFF and OME-TIFF need imagecodecs) | | other | imageio fallback, needs `pip install "luxar[io]"` | A missing optional dependency raises an actionable error naming the `pip install` to run — including a compressed TIFF read without imagecodecs (`pip install 'luxar[io]'` or `pip install imagecodecs`). **Physical voxel size is opt-in.** By default `fit`/`cal` work in voxel index space: an anisotropic stack fits as if its voxels were cubes (the fit prints a hint to pass `--physical` when the file records an anisotropic spacing). …

How to install
mdr add royerlab/luxar/luxar-data-loading@sha256:a6fa34ecaa33051aThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261019.0bf60cc, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
