Retrieve real-time hardware metrics from Apple Silicon Macs using mactop. Provides CPU, RAM, GPU, power, thermal, network, disk I/O, and Thunderbolt bus information. Use when the user wants system stats, hardware monitoring, or performance metrics on Apple Silicon Macs.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. # Mactop Skill
Execute mactop in headless mode and parse the output for Apple Silicon hardware metrics.
## Prerequisites
- **mactop installed**: `brew install mactop`
- **PATH includes /usr/sbin**: Required for sysctl access
## Usage
### Get Full Metrics
```bash
mactop --headless --count 1 --format json
```
Use `--format toon` when a compact human-readable stream is better than JSON.
### Parse Key Metrics
**CPU Usage:**
```bash
mactop --format toon --headless --count 1 | grep "^cpu_usage:" | awk '{print $2}'
```
**RAM (used/total GB):**

How to install
mdr add metaspartan/cybara/mactop@sha256:f3b62fb73b29e566The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260707.cd7dcfe, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
