Build, test, inspect, and deploy Python MCP servers with FastMCP.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# FastMCP
Use this when the user wants to create or test a Python MCP server, wrap an API/database/CLI as MCP tools, expose resources/prompts, or prepare an HTTP MCP endpoint.
## Server Shape
Start narrow:
- 1-3 concrete tools first.
- Read-only by default.
- Explicit typed parameters.
- JSON-safe return values.
- Clear docstrings; the docstring is the user-facing tool description.
Good tool names: `get_customer`, `search_tickets`, `describe_table`, `summarize_file`.
Weak names: `run`, `process`, `do_thing`.
## Minimal Template
```python
from fastmcp import FastMCP
mcp = FastMCP("Example")
@mcp.tool
def echo(text: str) -> dict:
"""Echo text back for smoke testing."""
return {"text": text}
```
## Local Validation
Prefer isolated runs:
```bash
uvx fastmcp version
uvx fastmcp inspect server.py:mcp
uvx fastmcp list server.py --json
uvx fastmcp call server.py echo text=hello --json
```
If `uv` is unavailable, use a project virtualenv and install `fastmcp` there. Do not install global Python packages unless the user asks.
## HTTP Transport Smoke
```bash
uvx fastmcp run server.py:mcp --transport http --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8000
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add metaspartan/cybara/fastmcp@sha256:a5330d24c4ab1726The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260703.247aff5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
