Write, debug, and tune a Hypercolor lighting effect against a running daemon in a tight loop: install an HTML page, apply it once, read its script errors with line numbers in your own file, look at the rendered canvas, patch controls live, and hot swap new versions without re-applying. Use this whenever someone asks you to create, write, design, port, fix, or iterate on a Hypercolor effect, an RGB or LED animation, or a lighting visual; when an effect "looks wrong", "is black", "froze…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Effect Livecoding
You can see what you render and read what it throws, so never declare an effect done
from the source alone. Every change ends with a console read and a capture.
## The loop
| Step | MCP | CLI |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Install the page | `install_effect {html, file_name}` | `hypercolor effects install fx.html` |
| 2. Apply it, once | `set_effect {query: <id>}` | add `--activate` to the install |
| 3. Read errors | `get_effect_console {after: <console_after>, level: "warn"}` | `hypercolor effects console --after <N> --level warn` |
| 4. Look at it | `capture_canvas {frames: 4, interval_ms: 200}` | `hypercolor effects capture -o fx.png --frames 4 --interval-ms 200`, then view the files |
| 5. Tune live | `adjust_controls {zone, layer, values}` | `hypercolor effects patch --param speed=2` |
| 6. Edit and reinstall | `install_effect` with the same `file_name` | `hypercolor effects install fx.html` |
Both install paths return `console_after`, a console cursor taken just before the
page loads. Pass it to step 3 so you read only what this version printed. Give the
page about a second to load and throw before you read.
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add hyperb1iss/hypercolor/effect-livecoding@sha256:93ffc629acb1983eThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261017.5f253be, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
