Use when choosing a diagnostic tool or collecting .NET performance data for a particular runtime, OS or container environment. Not for trace analysis, crash dumps or a repository-wide profiling workflow.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

<!-- Modified by Cratis from dotnet's original (MIT): frontmatter, applicability, navigation and the changes listed in NOTICE. Upstream: https://github.com/dotnet/skills (plugins/dotnet-diag/skills/dotnet-trace-collect/SKILL.md; see NOTICE) --> # .NET Trace Collect Cratis rules in `.cratis/ai/rules/` (including `csharp.md`, `specs.csharp.md`, and `orleans.md`) and the `cratis-*` skills win where they differ. This skill helps developers diagnose production performance issues by recommending the right diagnostic tools for their environment, guiding data collection, and suggesting analysis approaches. It does not analyze code for anti-patterns or perform the analysis itself. ## When to Use - A developer needs to investigate a production performance issue (high CPU, memory leak, slow requests, excessive GC, networking errors, etc.) - Choosing the right diagnostic tool for a specific runtime, OS, or deployment topology - Setting up and running diagnostic tool commands for data collection - Understanding trade-offs between available tools (e.g. PerfView vs dotnet-trace) - Collecting diagnostics from containerized or Kubernetes workloads ## When Not to Use …

How to install
mdr add cratis/ai/dotnet-trace-collect@sha256:98dc9af6cefb3833The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261026.fc845e3, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
