1Password-based secret storage workflow: vault layout, 1p:// references in .envrc, op run for local execution. Use when storing or rotating credentials with 1Password. (Other backends not covered.).
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Secrets with 1Password ## Philosophy Secrets never sit in plaintext in the repo, in shell history, or in long-lived shell env. 1Password is the only source of truth. Files commit **references** (`op://vault/item/field`); resolution happens at command time, in the child process only, via `op run` or `op inject`. Scanning and leak response stay in [[audit-security]]; this skill owns the storage and injection workflow. ## Prerequisites ```bash op --version # CLI present (installed via Brewfile: cask "1password-cli") op whoami # signed in; if not: `op signin` (or unlock via the 1Password desktop app) op vault list # confirm the target vault exists ``` The 1Password **desktop app** unlocks biometric integration and enables the `op` shell plugins (`op plugin init aws|gh|...`). For headless / CI, use a service account token instead (see CI section). ## The reference format ``` op://<vault>/<item>/[<section>/]<field> ``` Examples: `op://Dev/aws/access_key_id`, `op://Dev/snowflake/credentials/password`. Vaults and items can be addressed by **name or UUID**; UUIDs survive renames and are preferred in committed files for projects with churn. …

How to install
mdr add urmzd/dotfiles/manage-secrets@sha256:8120dd1a497defe7The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260530.d3be4dd, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
