Scans a repo and host for leaked keys and secrets (gitleaks, trufflehog), audits SSH/GPG/.env file permissions, checks git hygiene, investigates suspicious processes and listeners, and hardens config (FileVault, firewall, SIP, SSH). Use when auditing for leaked credentials or secrets, checking for security issues before a commit, investigating an unknown process or open port, or hardening a machine. Do NOT use for storing, injecting, or rotating secrets at rest (1Password, op read, vaults) ->…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Security Audit ## Core Principle Never read, echo, log, or surface secret values. All scanning is delegated to purpose-built tools that redact output by default. The agent's role is to orchestrate these tools and interpret their results, not to pattern-match secrets directly. ## On-Start Security Insights When invoked, run these checks and present a prioritized report (CRITICAL > WARNING > INFO): 1. **Secret scan** run `gitleaks detect --no-banner` on the working directory 2. **File permissions** check SSH keys, `.env` files for overly broad access 3. **Git hygiene** verify `.gitignore` covers `.env*`, `*.pem`, `*.key`, `credentials.json` 4. **Open ports** flag unexpected listeners via `lsof -i -P -n | grep LISTEN` 5. **System posture** FileVault status, firewall state, SIP status ## Secret Scanning Delegate entirely to external tools. Never grep for secret patterns directly. | Tool | Usage | |------|-------| | [gitleaks](https://github.com/gitleaks/gitleaks) | `gitleaks detect`. Scan working tree; `gitleaks protect`. Pre-commit | | [trufflehog](https://github.com/trufflesecurity/trufflehog) | `trufflehog filesystem .`. Deep entropy + pattern scan | …

How to install
mdr add urmzd/dotfiles/audit-security@sha256:10853f56496556e2The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260530.d3be4dd, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
