Mandatory Effect-TS coding patterns for the Reactive Agents framework. Use when writing any TypeScript code, creating services, defining types, handling errors, or composing layers in this project.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Effect-TS Patterns — Reactive Agents
Every file in this project MUST follow these patterns. Violations will break the build and type system.
## Types: Schema.Struct (NEVER plain interfaces)
```typescript
import { Schema } from "effect";
// Branded IDs
export const AgentId = Schema.String.pipe(Schema.brand("AgentId"));
export type AgentId = typeof AgentId.Type;
// Struct definitions
export const AgentSchema = Schema.Struct({
id: AgentId,
name: Schema.String,
status: Schema.Literal("idle", "running", "completed", "failed"),
description: Schema.optional(Schema.String),
tags: Schema.Array(Schema.String),
metadata: Schema.optional(
Schema.Record({ key: Schema.String, value: Schema.Unknown }),
),
});
export type Agent = typeof AgentSchema.Type;
```
**Rules:**
- ALWAYS use `Schema.Struct` for data shapes — never `interface` or `type { ... }`
- ALWAYS use `Schema.brand()` for ID types
- ALWAYS use `Schema.Literal()` for union/enum values
- ALWAYS use `Schema.optional()` for optional fields — never `?:`
- ALWAYS derive the TypeScript type with `typeof XxxSchema.Type`
## Errors: Data.TaggedError (NEVER throw)
```typescript
import { Data } from "effect";
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add tylerjrbuell/reactive-agents-ts/effect-ts-patterns@sha256:c5687afa1bb13335The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260903.992029e, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
