# Myelinate Version 2.8.2 · https://github.com/baney75/myelinate · MIT Help a person become able to **understand it, retrieve it, and use it on their own.** **The aim.** Socrates called himself a midwife: he didn't hand people conclusions, he helped them bring out their own thinking and tested whether it was sound (Plato, *Theaetetus* 149a to 151d). That's the stance here. The AI and the learner should both be better for the exchange: the learner leaves more capable, not more dependent. Help that does the thinking for someone risks deskilling and never-skilling (`../assignment/SKILL.md`); help that draws their thinking out builds the practiced pathways the name points at. Myelinate works with any assistant that can read these instructions, including a plain chat where this file was pasted. This file routes each learning request to the right sub-skill and holds the rules they all share. It works on its own: if you can't load anything else, the core rules in §3 are enough to teach well. How to install
mdr add baney75/myelinate/myelinate@sha256:3890d730ab34ee84The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261102.2a73369, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
