setup-pre-commit SKILL.md skillA
This file is byte-identical to the first copy the registry indexed, one of 4 indexed copies. Same content hash, so the same checks give both the same grade.
setup-pre-commit from asymmetric-al/core is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add asymmetric-al/core/setup-pre-commit@git:20260923.15c9348Pins git:20260923.15c9348 in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Set up Husky pre-commit hooks with lint-staged (Prettier), type checking, and tests in the current repo. Use when user wants to add pre-commit hooks, set up Husky, configure lint-staged, or add commit-time formatting/typechecking/testing.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Setup Pre-Commit Hooks
## What This Sets Up
- **Husky** pre-commit hook
- **lint-staged** running Prettier on all staged files
- **Prettier** config (if missing)
- **typecheck** and **test** scripts in the pre-commit hook
## Steps
### 1. Detect package manager
Check for `package-lock.json` (npm), `pnpm-lock.yaml` (pnpm), `yarn.lock` (yarn), `bun.lockb` (bun). Use whichever is present. Default to npm if unclear.
### 2. Install dependencies
Install as devDependencies:
```
husky lint-staged prettier
```
### 3. Initialize Husky
```bash
npx husky init
```
This creates `.husky/` dir and adds `prepare: "husky"` to package.json.
### 4. Create `.husky/pre-commit`
Write this file (no shebang needed for Husky v9+):
```
npx lint-staged
npm run typecheck
npm run test
```
**Adapt**: Replace `npm` with detected package manager. If repo has no `typecheck` or `test` script in package.json, omit those lines and tell the user.
### 5. Create `.lintstagedrc`
```json
{
"*": "prettier --ignore-unknown --write"
}
```
### 6. Create `.prettierrc` (if missing)
Only create if no Prettier config exists. Use these defaults:
```json
{
"useTabs": false,
"tabWidth": 2,
How to install
mdr add asymmetric-al/core/setup-pre-commit@sha256:c9819d7f1e3b1980The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260923.15c9348, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
