Decide Screenplay stream identity and consistency: one business identity per event source, where each invariant is enforced atomically, constraints versus recorded state-dependent rules, races, retries and dedup scope, event granularity, evolution (generations, id pins, new events) and module or team boundaries. Use for identifier/for, constraints, splitting streams or modules, ownership of interfaces, or changing persisted events. Not for: projection or query syntax…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Streams and consistency
Decide what each stream *is*, which rules hold atomically and where, and how events may change
later; then express that in `.play` truthfully. The model must say which invariants it protects,
which it only records, and what a retry, a race or a replay does. Grammar lives in the construct
skills; this skill owns the decisions. The `.play` model is the source of truth: a rule that
lives only in code, or only in a description, is a finding, not a solution.
**First append into a scope is not checked by default.** The optimistic strategy compares the scope's tail sequence number; with no matching event yet there is no tail, so two writers opening the same source can both succeed. A concurrency scope alone does not protect "only one writer may open this": enable `ConcurrencyOptions.CheckFirstAppendIntoAScope` or `ExpectingNoMatchingEvent()`, or use a unique event constraint. Treat the default as unchecked until target evidence shows otherwise. Read [references/consistency-and-concurrency.md](references/consistency-and-concurrency.md) ("First append into a scope") for the options and the evidence to require.

How to install
mdr add cratis/ai/cratis-screenplay-streams-and-consistency@sha256:e842d56d0b07f720The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261019.5b1bf70, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
