Consult, author, accept, and supersede decision records in a Cratis repository's decisions/ folder (or the folder in `.cratis/ai.json` `process.decisions.path`). Use before an architectural, contract, scope, or cross-cutting change, when a ruling has been made that later work must obey, or when an accepted decision has to be replaced. Defer product documentation, session handovers, and work-item status to their own workflows.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Cratis decision records A decision is a durable choice with a **decider** and a **date**. It is documentation, not a work record: it lives in the repository's `decisions/` folder (or the folder `.cratis/ai.json` sets as `process.decisions.path`) and is reviewed like any other documentation. A handover may summarize a decision; it never holds the only copy. This skill owns the *procedure* — how to consult, author, accept, and supersede a record. It does not decide what to decide, and it never grants acceptance. Do not turn an implementation request, issue plan, or reversible technical choice into an approval ceremony merely because this skill is available. ## When you need this - You are about to make a significant architectural, contract, scope, or cross-cutting change. Consult existing records first: a decision you did not read still binds the change. Consulting does not imply that a new record or human approval is required. - A human made a durable ruling — in review, in chat, or in a meeting — that later work has to obey. How to install
mdr add cratis/ai/cratis-engineering-decision-record@sha256:4d4cd623a72dc0ecThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261018.6960a08, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
