Reference templates and structure for common security policies (acceptable use, incident reporting, information classification), the policy, standard, procedure, and guideline hierarchy, regulatory mapping, review cycles, progressive enforcement, and exception management. Use when writing, customizing, or auditing security policies.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

## Knowledge Base
### Policy Hierarchy
Security documentation follows a hierarchy from abstract to specific:
```
Policies (WHAT must be done - approved by leadership)
└─ Standards (HOW to comply - specific requirements)
└─ Procedures (STEP-BY-STEP - operational instructions)
└─ Guidelines (RECOMMENDATIONS - best practices, optional)
```
**Policies** are mandatory, approved by senior management, and change infrequently. They state requirements without prescribing specific technologies.
**Standards** define specific technical requirements that implement policies. They reference specific technologies, configurations, and metrics.
**Procedures** provide step-by-step operational instructions for carrying out standards. They are the most frequently updated documents.
**Guidelines** are recommendations and best practices. They are not mandatory but represent organizational wisdom.
### Essential Policy Set
Every organization needs these core policies as a minimum:

How to install
mdr add hermeticormus/libresecops-claude-code/security-policy-templates@sha256:64783d33dd291840The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260930.71a2663, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
