Evolve a Chronicle event schema without breaking replay - add a generation and an EventTypeMigration so stored events upcast into the new shape. Use when an event needs a new required property, a renamed or split property, a structural change, or a changed enum value after events of the prior shape already exist. Do not use for greenfield renames, for read-model changes, or for redacting stored content.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Chronicle event type migrations Chronicle stores events forever. When an event's schema must change, you add a **generation** and write a **migration** rather than editing the original record. Chronicle discovers migrations by convention and applies them when reading older events. > You need this only once events of the prior shape exist somewhere you cannot > regenerate. Before that — greenfield development with disposable data — rename > event types and change schemas freely. A migration written too early is dead > code that hides the real schema in the history. ## Route near misses - An accepted `.play` model under the model root covers the behavior, or the repository is opted in (per `general.md` "Model first"; where `cratis-screenplay-modeling-lifecycle` is installed, run its `scripts/model-first-status.mjs`): change the model first with `cratis-screenplay-event-modeling`. If the Screenplay skills are not installed, say so and do not author `.play` from memory. Edit code here only for infrastructure, clients, adapters, Screenplay code attachments, or gap-fill scope (`cratis-screenplay-render-and-gap-fill`); never edit Stage-managed output. …

How to install
mdr add cratis/ai/cratis-chronicle-event-type-migration@sha256:c0cf47abe2ed3e23The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261014.8b817dc, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
