Use the Chronicle browser Workbench - its screens, what each one can read and change, how it is reached and enabled, and the operational discipline for redaction, revision, replay, quarantine clearing and kernel reset. Use when inspecting or operating a running Chronicle store through the browser, or when deciding whether the Workbench should be exposed at all. Do not use for the CLI's terminal Workbench, and do not use for application source changes.

# The Chronicle browser Workbench The Workbench is a React application the Chronicle server serves alongside its gRPC and HTTP surfaces. It is the richest view of a running store — and the only place several irreversible operations exist. Treat it as full plaintext access to the event log. **"Workbench" names two different products.** This skill is about the browser Workbench served by the Chronicle server. The terminal Workbench is a separate full-screen view inside the `cratis` CLI, with a smaller, read-mostly capability set. ## Operating discipline A request to inspect a running store does not authorize a mutation. Before any operation in the table under "What each screen can change": 1. Name the exact server, event store, namespace, and target. 2. Capture its pre-state and the evidence that justifies the operation. 3. For Revise, read the affected-observer list; for Redact, write a reason that will still make sense to a reader a year from now. 4. Obtain explicit authorization for that exact target and action. 5. How to install

This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
