# factory v0: design A harness that lets the person accountable for agent-built software warrant a change by reading **evidence**, not code. Builders no longer review their own code line by line; they rely on the harness. So the warranty lives in the harness, and the harness itself must be warranted. **Compose the build layer; own the warranty layer.** Spec-and-build methodologies already exist and are widely used (obra/superpowers, GitHub Spec Kit, OpenSpec, BMAD). None of them publishes evidence that its gates catch anything; they rely on the user's review or the agents' review of their own work. So the factory does not compete on how code gets written. Stages 1, 3 and 4 are adapters: a thin default `claude -p` leg, or any methodology run inside the sandboxed worktree. The gates, the ledger, independent review, calibration and sign-off are the factory, and they don't care how the code was made. …
