Supplies the writing discipline for any document an agent consumes — context pointers, information hierarchy, completion criteria, leading words, pruning. Use when creating or editing AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md, public project docs agents rely on, Brain context, design or ADR docs, skills, or referenced guidance.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Writing for agents Use this reference for any document an agent consumes: public project documentation, an `AGENTS.md` or `CLAUDE.md`, private Brain material, a skill, or a document reached through a pointer. Their packaging and visibility differ; the writing does not. The goal is predictable behaviour: the agent takes the same process each run, even when its exact output varies. When the document is a skill, use the runtime's available skill-authoring capability for packaging, invocation policy, and validation. Apply the writing principles here to its instructions and references. ## Context pointers A **context pointer** is text already in context that names material outside the current context and states when to read it. A skill description is a pointer. So is an `AGENTS.md` line directing an agent to an architecture document or private Brain file. The pointer's wording, rather than its target, determines whether the agent retrieves the material at the right time. A required document behind a vague pointer is a variance bug: sharpen the pointer first, and inline the material only when a precise pointer still proves unreliable. …

How to install
mdr add arminzou/dotbrain/write-agent-docs@sha256:a36f30add5fed26fThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261009.2ef2192, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
