Makes service code survive slow and failing dependencies with timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, idempotent handlers, and graceful shutdown. Use when code calls other services or third-party APIs, uses queues or background workers, or sets up service startup, config, or health checks.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Building resilient services Every remote call can hang, fail for a moment, fail for an hour, or succeed twice, so code that crosses a network boundary bounds its waiting, retries only what is safe to repeat, and stops calling a dependency that is down. This skill owns timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, bulkheads, idempotent consumers, what liveness and readiness checks test and how they drive routing and restarts, and the Twelve-Factor rules for config, processes, and shutdown. The adding-observability skill owns logs, metrics, traces, alerting, and what health endpoints expose, the designing-http-apis skill owns the `Idempotency-Key` contract on endpoints, the working-with-databases skill owns queries and transactions, the writing-secure-code skill owns secrets, and the applying-design-patterns skill owns general object patterns. When the project already has a resilience library, policies, or conventions, follow them over this skill. ## Values and libraries …

How to install
mdr add dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills/building-resilient-services@sha256:39c6b6635869c051The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261015.18f69f5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
