Adds, updates, and removes dependencies and hardens CI with maintained packages, committed lockfiles, pinned images and actions, and least-privilege permissions. Use when changing package manifests, lockfiles, Dockerfile base images, CI workflows, or Dependabot and Renovate config.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Managing dependencies and CI Every dependency and every CI step runs code you did not write with the access you give it, so add packages only after checking them, install exactly what the lockfile records, and give pipelines the least access that works. Publishing packages and images, provenance, SBOMs, and version bumps belong to the releasing-software skill. Secrets in application code belong to the writing-secure-code skill, test content to the writing-tests skill, and commit and pull request text to the writing-commit-messages skill. When the project already has conventions for package managers, registries, or pipelines, follow them over this skill. ## Before adding a dependency AI assistants suggest packages that do not exist. The OpenSSF guide for AI code assistant instructions cites a study where 19.7% of proposed packages did not exist, and attackers register such names. Check every new package before you install it. - **Need.** Use the standard library or a dependency the project already has when it covers the task. A few lines of your own code beat a package for a trivial helper. …

How to install
mdr add dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills/managing-dependencies-and-ci@sha256:dffa83c61ad6c960The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261015.18f69f5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
