Adds and reviews logs, metrics, traces, error reporting, and health endpoints with OpenTelemetry and structured logging. Use when code logs, measures, traces, or reports errors, or when changing logging setup, audit logs, or health checks.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Adding observability Telemetry lets people answer questions about a running system without shipping new code, and every log line, span, and metric is also a place where secrets and personal data leak. Use OpenTelemetry instrumentation and its stable names, keep telemetry structured and correlated, and collect only what serves an operational or security purpose. The writing-clean-code skill covers error handling in general, the writing-secure-code skill covers secrets, authentication, and access control, the building-resilient-services skill covers timeouts, retries, configuration, shutdown, and the design of health checks, and the securing-llm-features skill covers what to record about model and tool calls. When the project already has a logging library, a telemetry setup, or a field naming scheme, follow it over this skill. ## Instrumentation - **Prefer existing instrumentation.** Before writing a span by hand, look in the project and the OpenTelemetry registry for an agent or instrumentation library that already covers the web framework, HTTP client, database driver, or message broker. Write manual spans only for business operations no library can see. …

How to install
mdr add dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills/adding-observability@sha256:b613e9e74b5fb172The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261015.18f69f5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
